We are Giving Our Christian Vote to #Duterte

As Christians, why should we vote for Mayor Duterte

Less than a month to the 2016 presidential elections, we finally have decided who to vote for president. All of them are good and can lead to some measures, but as a people who expect a spiritual revival in the Philippines; we have to look at different avenues to choose who the best candidate for the Malacañang Palace is. We prayed, watched almost every interviews, read almost all trending posts, followed each of their campaign journeys online, and we have come to a sound decision that we are giving our #ChristianVote to Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Voting with a Conviction

We call this the #ChristianVote because this is not just a vote from a Filipino citizen (not that it is lesser) exercising the rights of suffrage alone. This is not just a vote out of our own personal experiences, ethnicity (Bisaya) and locality. This is not even because he is our Mayor.

This is a vote in faith and intercession given to the one who we believe can be used by God to usher His destiny and calling for the Filipino people.

Qualified but…

Let’s go there straight.

Senator Meriam Santiago is sickly. She is smart but can’t even stand in debates for a long period of time because of her physical limitations. How can she run this nation in its nitty gritty plight? The Philippines needs a president who will go to every barangays and get her/his hands dirty (not in a corrupt way) with work. Senator Santiago is not the right person for this responsibility.

Senator Grace Poe is well-versed but has limited experience. She can do research, prepare a plan but the last #PiliPinasDebates2016 for presidentiables disclosed that she can’t decide effectively in the midst of crisis. This was reflected when she was asked by the good Mayor on what will she do if China attacks. Senator Poe is good but not fully equipped for this time being. This is setting aside the issue on her citizenship which may play a crucial role in understanding what this country needs.

Former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas has been given a lot of chances for good governance over the past few years but he hasn’t done this nation any outstanding and effective long term change. Former DILG Sec. Roxas was born to a family of influential leaders but does not possess the heart and will to be one.

Vice President Jejomar Binay is tinted with corruption issues. We have a saying that “when there’s smoke, there’s fire”. He denied all issues and say all are black propagandas. But how come he did not also expose what’s true? Why is he not present in all hearings? Why is he not using media to share what reality is? A press conference can be very easy to call but he did not do anything to address these issues.

This tells us that he is hiding something. There’s no transparency. And in the condition the Philippines is at right now, gray lines are not a gamble we’re willing to risk.

Why #DU30?

Let’s also go their straight.

Mayor Duterte is a proven and tested effective leader. In all the presidential candidates only Mayor Duterte has a track record of competent public service WITHOUT CORRUPTION issues. His 22 years of service in Davao is definitely not perfect but the best across the land.

We are a living witnesses. We have traveled a few cities in Europe, Asia and the Philippines but there’s no place like Davao City.

  • There is peace and order. The law is functioning. There are No Smoking Ordinance, Firecracker Ban, Speed Limit, Liquor Restriction, No Videoke In Public after 10pm, and a few more rules that we all abide and value. It’s not a martial law state because only those who violate the law receive humane consequences. These laws gave this city the rare peace of mind we can’t find in any cities.
  • There is safety. People are free and protected. When we see police officers (which is almost every 1 kilometer in public places), we feel safe and not threatened. When we hear news of bomb threats and crimes, we have a mindset that it won’t happen in Davao City because we have Mayor Duterte. Our 911 and public rescue and safety teams are there 24/7 ready to respond to any call of help, for free!
  • There is progress. Visit Davao City today, you will see taller buildings and new infrastructures simultaneously being built all over. There are jobs and good opportunities. It’s true, life is here. And this can be possible nationwide, if the Philippines is up for it.
  • There is equality. People are heard. Even the poorest of poor receives justice when the issue reaches the Mayor. People from different groups even the minorities, are esteemed.

Mayor Duterte can unite the nation. The NPA, MILF, MNLF, Catholics, (“born again”) Christians and all other groups share a good standing with the Mayor. There is mutual honor and respect despite the differences.

And only a Mayor Duterte can do this. Only him can lead this diverse land with more than 80 ethnic groups spread out in 7000 plus islands, including all the Filipinos working all over the world. He alone can bring the unity we badly need.

Mayor Duterte has a clear plan with a time frame. Only a #DuterteCayetano tandem gives us  solutions. If this is a science class and Filipino people is the teacher, other tandems (science groups) are identifying the problem and giving us hypotheses. The #DuCay tandem is giving this land a conclusion and recommendations. They both have the leadership and political will for transformation.

Yes, our Vice-President is Senator Allan Cayetano. Here’s why.

#CayetanoVPKo

In addition, if we deem that Mayor Duterte is a great leader; wise and not corrupt, we have to trust his choice. There’s a reason why he choose Cayetano and not Marcos or Robredo…

Mayor Duterte is a palaban (gladiatorial). The Mayor is a fighter. He hates crimes and injustice. He is brave and is a man of action.

Mayor Duterte is a patriot. He has passion for the nation and love for the Filipino people that we have not seen from the rest. He ran not because he wants to gain something, but because he wants to serve his people and bring change in this nation. He genuinely cares for the poor and the helpless.

Not Political

Mayor Duterte has issues…

He cuss and is adulterous according to the Law of God. These caused our hesitations before because we wanted a leader who upholds righteousness. We even had to follow his stands on divorce and same sex marriage and we’re happy when he declared NO to both. Nonetheless, we have to understand that he did not have a real encounter with God yet. We can’t expect anyone to uphold God’s values and project the saintly life when he doesn’t have the Holy Spirit in his life. That would be unfair.

The killings of Davao Death Squad (DDS) is also linked to his name. This was a big no-no to me before. I even wrote a blog about it discussing how it doesn’t reflect the heart of God who is full of grace. These criminals should be given a chance. But over the years I understood that in a corrupt nation like the Philippines where the justice system works only for the rich, a serious Public Servant needs to do radical measures to uphold justice and common good. Desperate men do desperate things.

It’s simple, killing one drug pusher will save 50 kids who are using drugs. And we’re from Davao City, we have personally seen at least three pushers killed and have talked to their relatives. We even know someone whose Dad was a former member of the DDS. Living here for more than 15 years, we can attest that it’s true, no one is killed without being warned, no minor, women or the innocent are killed. Because if only our judicial system works, the DDS should have remained a myth.

To add, the Mayor also has a bad mouth. The latest “rape joke” shows that. He has “gutter language”. How we wish he talks more statesmanly but he is who he is. He grew up in the “streets”. But at the end of the day, it’s not about who talks more politically correct but who can lead this nation with effective leadership. The one who won’t steal from the people but will give himself fully to the nation.

Lastly, Mayor Duterte is not the “good image” guy we’re used to. Not the political type that tickles our itching ears with good words but are unable to implement and bring real change. He bluntly reflects the real situation of our society: broken family, cusses when mad… But why would these actions intimidate the Christian in us when we often see these in our own neighborhood? Adultery, cussing, and killings are in the very soap operas you love to watch. Let’s not do what the Pharisees did when Jesus walked on earth. 🙂

Revival in the Philippines

We believe in the change coming. We believe in revival coming to the Philippines. As Christians, we need to look what God is doing and not be blinded by self-righteousness. We need to be able to set aside our religious preferences and think of our nation. Who can lead us best? Who has a track record great governance? Who is not corrupt? Who can best bring the will of God and His righteousness in this nation? It is the one with the selfless motive to real change.

This is the time for revival. He is giving us a leader who can usher transformation in our land. Let’s position our nation for revival by voting the one with the heart to serve and will to change. Duterte, despite his imperfections is the man of the hour! He is the instrument for change.

Yes he’s not a Christian (yet). But even the “unbeliever kings” in the Old Testament (Nebuchadnezzar, Xerxes) were used by God to bring salvation to His people. It just takes a people bold enough to position themselves to be used by God and usher blessing from a leader to a nation. Let’s be the Daniel and Esther of our generation. Let’s give our #ChristianVote to #Duterte!

🙂 🙂 🙂

NOTE: When I used the word “we”, this means my Husband and I. This stand and campaign do not reflect the people we serve and organizations we’re affiliated. However if you’re a Christian like to join us in the “we” voice and would like to influence others to give their #ChristianVote to #Duterte, please pray with us… please share this blog to open more eyes. On to national transformation!

      5. We know that our world now is full evil. And it is clear that our only hope is to follow Jesus and his teachings. I would rather vote for a man despite of his cursing mouth (out of reasonable anger) has a sincere concern and love willing to risk his life for our country and for fellow Filipino. I would rather look to track records than to empty words and promises by some politicians (deceivers). I would choose a leader who will lead his sheep to equality not a boss that will make us slave on our own land. Miss Grace gives us a clear picture of Mayor Digong’s sincere love for the people in Davao city. A pure public servant and hating spotlights, just doing his job without showing his good act in the eyes of the public. He may be not aware, but by doing everything to protect the right of his people, he is doing what Christ has taught us.

      6. Amen. Let’s continue to pray for him – that he will have an encounter with Jesus. It’s not impossible. 🙂 Thanks Anthony.

      1. Hi! i am Jimmel Galzote thanks for the good article you shared to us.
        some ,of my friends who are always arguing on me about my support to mayor Du30 are now openly minded because i use to share with them as an example about the historical background of Daniel in the Bible when God use Nebuchadnezzar and call him a Servant; Nebuchadnezzar is a wicked king from Babylon empire and God use him to punish the wicked and corrupt king and leaders of Israel;
in our time i believe God will use Du30 to punish the corrupt leaders and criminals of the Philippines

  3. Mar, Grace and Binay are unwittingly pushing for a continue of the Paganistic influenced worldview, whereas Duterte is very Biblical –

  10. If Christ, or any of the disciples were around, they wouldn’t be voting for any mere man or Caesar. They would vote for one thing: The coming of God’s Kingdom to replace every human government.. That’s what every true Christian prays for: The permanent solution from God. Psalm 146:3-4, Matthew 6.

    1. Amen. That’s what we’re praying too. That He will have His hand in our nation. His permanent solution.

    1. As mentioned in the blog, Duterte (and all of them) did not experience a REAL born again experience and thus the sinful life. This is why we need to look at their leadership, their track record… the MOTIVEs of the heart and who can BEST serve the nation. 🙂

  20. Mahiya ka naman na sabihin mo na you’re giving your christian vote to duterte. If you are really a christian, then teach your candidate to stop saying putang ina! How much more ang pilipinas? Ang tingin nyo kay duyerte messiah na kaya nya isalba ang pilipinas. i doubt kung totoo ka talagang kristyano.

    1. Apparently you did not understand this blog. 🙂

      * He doesn’t have a born again experience and thus the cussing and other sin issues. Praying that he’ll have an encounter with Jesus though.
      * I don’t know where you got your numbers but like I said in the blog too, I am from here (for 15 years now). I walk out late at night and feel safe that I don’t get raped or murdered unlike what I see in news in other places.
      * Davao is not small. It is the SECOND WIDEST city in the WORLD and yet he’s able to bring peace and order, progress without being corrupt. That’s a true mark of leadership.
      * He’s not the Messiah, Jesus is. 🙂
      * Research who I am and see for yourself if I am a Christian or not. I am confident eternity will tell. 🙂

  21. Hi sis. Below are honest- to- goodness questions, not meant to judge or attack. thanks in advance for your answers:

    1. What can you say about Duterte making a joke about the Australian woman who got raped? Does that still make him”gladiatorial”? Does that show he is a good leader who upholds the law and defends his people?

    2. Does his stand to give in to China make him a brave leader? Will giving in to China end the tension and make us less vulnerable? Will their bullying end there if we give in?

    3. He proudly disobeys our nation’s laws on fidelity and due process… how can i trust that he will uphold the laws of the nation and protect my rights and not just pick and choose the laws to follow and when to make an exception? How can I trust that when he makes an exception, his flawed, limited, human mind has indeed made the right choice? Our justice system may have problems.. but at least the laws give me protection. How can I feel safe if my President does not respect the laws?

    4. The problems of the other candidates that you presented either shows that they are incompetent or tainted with illegal activities. One thought i have is maybe we are expecting too much of our leaders–one leader cannot bring change. truth is, Christians are the light of the world so we are the ones who should actually bring about change… it’s unrealistic to think leaders can…

My problem with Duterte is he CELEBRATES sin. He is not ashamed of it. At least Binay is still trying to hide his sin because he knows it’s wrong (i am NOT pro Binay). I understand Duterte does not have the Holy Spirit, yet… but I am not expecting him to be Christlike. I’m just expecting that my leader would have some kind of fear of the Lord. It is the BEGINNING of wisdom, after all. The Bible says a man who does not fear the Lord is foolish… why would I choose a foolish leader? At least the other candidates reflect some fear of the Lord. It’s one thing to be incompetent, trapo, questionable… but it’s another to CELEBRATE sin. That’s just a MAJOR red flag for me as a Christ-follower. Kings and rulers used by God in the Old Testament do NOT have a knowledge of God and have their own gods. They have a particular culture separate from the Israelites who knows God. But Duterte lives in a Christian nation. He knows God and His ways even if he doesnt have the Holy Spirit. Even atheists know about God and His ways. But despite a knowledge of God and His ways, Duterte still PROUDLY chooses and flaunts his sin:-( why do you want someone so immoral to lead us?

A thought: Duderte being able to unite everyone is still open for debate. It’s a sweeping generalization. I, for one, am not a person into politics, but I just have STRONG feelings about not wanting Duterte to lead me and my children… when he starts cursing, disrespecting women, and bragging about adultery on TV, I cant tell my kids who Im trying to disciple that, “hey, i voted for that guy.” In effect agreeing to his actions.

Pls do answer. I really want to understand. I probably won’t vote for him, in the end. But at least I tried my best to understand why my bros and sis in Christ would still vote for him. Thank you and God bless you!

    1. Hi Sis Nina,

Thank you so much for sharing your heart. I can feel your sincere love for the country. I also understand your red flags. You are one true Christian who loves the Lord and want to see Him in our land. Thank you for you are. Keep being one. 🙂

I am not justifying Duterte’s actions because again we had our own hesitations, that being from here. It is because like you, we love the Lord and want to see Him exalted in our land thus the longing for a leader who loves righteousness. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find one in any of them. We choose Duterte for two main reasons: 1. Track record to IMPLEMENT effective and long-term change and 2. that despite his flaws, he EMPHATIZE with people and fights for them.

With regards to your questions, (please know that I’m not justifying Mayor Duterte and I can be wrong, but here’s what’s in my heat now).

      1. When I said “gladiatorial” I referred to to his stand against crime and injustice. He is not afraid to fight the rich pushers and any big syndicates to save the poor and preserve goodness in he city. He has proven it for years in this city.

      2. China – I truly believe he can usher a beneficial solution. He knows when to stay for peace talks and when to attack for the law. He has proven these over the years too. He often to the NPA camp to get hostages. He even made himself a hostage to the victims can go home.

      3. He doesn’t proudly disobeys the law Sis. He himself is the protector of the law. Any taxi driver, vendor, citizen here can tell you that. He is the only presidential candidate who goes through inspections the normal way in malls, no special treatment, because he upholds the law. He himself was caught and given a speeding ticket (also his daughter) and demanded the apprehending officer to get his license or else he will be in jail for not obeying the law. He was a prosecutor for years defending the law. A lawyer by heart and mind. I couldn’t think of anyone among the candidates who will uphold the law BEST than him.

On infidelity – We don’t know what really happened between him and his former wife Elizabeth so we can’t really judge him. It’ll be between him and the Lord. This is a reflection of what our society is now.

Due process – I mentioned this in the blog. 🙂 One has to do harsh measures to uphold a “law” when the real law is almost non-existent. For common good. To strike real fear. To bring peace and order.

      4. The other candidates Sis show as good actions but if we truly look at their hearts (MOTIVE), just as Jesus would do, their leadership (not personal lives) are corrupt and tinted. I would rather chose Duterte is who an open book about who he is (not hiding anything) showing toughness, bluntness, pride – but when I look down in his heart, there is emphaty, there is selfless love for people, there is servant leadership… because this is what this nation needs right now. Now who puts a mask of calmness but has the heart of a thief.

I agree with you – the responsibility is in US. We are the light of the world. But God is a God of order too. He establishes governments and leaders (Hebrew 13). His Deity reflects this – Father, Son, Holy Spirit. He established a nation and every minutes detail of laws, etc. in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. He is for government. If only we have Christian leaders who will govern this land, revival should have been here yesterday and transformation should be here too. For some reason God works through individuals, families and on a national level. Thus if we want national transformation, we should look for leaders who can usher His move in our land. And I would go for Duterte because of his heart for people and this land. He is not corrupt. He would take. He will give. Despite his personal flaws.

The cussing is all over TV, movies… There’s even magic (which is denonic) in Disney Channel. It’s a fallen world. So I’d rather guide my kids to listening to God’s voice who their relationship with God will guide them in this world full of wickedness, than give them a leader who still steal from them and give them a weak future, a corrupt Philippines. I will go for change Sis. I will go for radical and proven transformation. And I am doing this in faith… 🙂

      Blessings.

  23. I heard a lot of good things about Davao, it’s peace and order. I am voting for Duterte because of his track record of accomplishment, not because of his flaws and behavior. People can change and Jesus can only do that. My heart desire is for him to know his Creator and to have a personal relationship with the Father through Christ too. About the character and manners of Duterte we can’t really judge Him and I hoped we don’t need to looked upon his mistakes and sins but for his great compassion and love for his people because love covers the multitude of sins and can be repaid by love alone .Quoted by” Saint Therese of the infant Jesus”.God doesn’t called the perfect one but for weak and sinners & feeling not worthy always ..but He raises us .If God declares Him to be our President, I believed that time God used and give His power to him to project decipline for his people and whatever God’s will for Him to do. Lets pray together for great acceptance for changed and forgiving heart for everyone.

    1. Amen Luzminda. As Christians who have a faith in God for our nation, we need to know how to set aside our religious preferences and think of our country. Vote the best who can bring our nation to its destiny best… Thank you.

  30. who would you choose barrabas or jesus??
I bet you will vote for barrabas to be released over jesus…
And you claimed to be a christian.. tsk tsk…

    1. 🙂 One needs to look beyond the surface to see what God is doing Ryan.

      1. I love you Grace for your convictions, God bless our nation, the Philippines.

      2. Thank you Mama Lolit. Love you.

  31. Galing galing naman. Thank you Julmar Grace sa post. Very clear yet profound. DUCAY solid kami. Praying for a landslide win by DUCAY – for change. Kaya mga kapatid sama – sama na tayo iboto si Duterte at Cayetano.

    1. You’re welcome po. Doing this in faith. For our dear Philippines.

  32. You raised many good points. I only have one question, you said our justice system only works for the rich (and I agree with this statement). Why support Duterte and death penalty then? Don’t you know that many incarcerated people are poor victims of frame-ups by corrupt policemen? How will that work for the safety of Filipinos? Isn’t it better to let them live and rehabilitate through a prison system that is improved by leaders like Duterte, rather than just shooting them, based solely on the suspicion of one official, or worse, on the discretion of policemen who are only desperate to claim their monetary reward?

    1. Hi Aimee, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I mentioned this is the blog already. 🙂

With your corrupt policemen concerns, it’s a matter of leadership in a corrupt government. Is the Mayor becomes President, corruption can be limited down to the baranggay level. It’s just takes a man who can lead this nation to do that.

  33. I seriously cant surmise how you can call being in favor of death penalty a Christian vote. You said it yourself. Our justice system is indeed flaw. Why kill criminals then, when you are aware that many of them are victims themselves? I say victims because poverty has prevented them of access to good lawyers. Heck our judges accept bribery left and right. Now, is it really Christian to kill these people when you know that our justice is FAR from the justness of God’s justice? Only God gives life and only He will take it away.

    1. As written:
The killings of Davao Death Squad (DDS) is also linked to his name. This was a big no-no to me before. I even wrote a blog about it discussing how it doesn’t reflect the heart of God who is full of grace. These criminals should be given a chance. But over the years I understood that in a corrupt nation like the Philippines where the justice system works only for the rich, a serious Public Servant needs to do radical measures to uphold justice and common good. Desperate men do desperate things.

Let’s pray for change though. That the White Lady holding the weighing scale will truly be blinded with money and influence but will give justice to those who deserve it.

  34. I too have been to Davao. And as I read your blog, I felt a sense of relief that there are Christians like you who sees what I saw. Even during the time of Yolanda where dead bodies of many victims are scattered, the first to rescue and brought a full force rescuers and equipment is none other but Mayor Duterte.
As I am watching day by day and as I prayed ( the best I can do), I kneel down to God and askec Him, Lord, give this Philippines a leader like him.
No hesitations, always ready and willing to help in times of need. Giving his best to atleast give the bereaved family some comfort and handful of food even from his very own pocket.
Why should I hesitate even if he uttered “gutter language”? I strongly beleive, God answers prayer, for the many times I have proven it.
Fellow Christian beleivers, We are all given Spirit of discernment. Let us choose wisely.
Thanks to the author of this blog posted a clear points on why we should vote for Duterte.
    God bless you!

    1. I truly agree Myrna. I takes DISCERNMENT. Let’s pray that our nation will not be blinded with black propagandas but will truly have wisdom to see who are wolves in sheeps’ clothing. 🙂

  35. Well said! For du30, i dont feel any fear, only hopes!

    1. Let’s stay hopeful Jeff. Change is coming. We will see our dear Philippines beam in glory in the coming months. We’re destined for greatness. 🙂

  36. this post is great! tnx madam! God Bless! – Jeff/ Makati City

    1. You’re welcome. God bless.

  37. Well, very inspiring but not totally convincing! Actually, Mayor Duterte has a good governance but in some aspect we need to stand what the bible tells us! we need to pray for mayor duterte! thanks!

    #EyeOpener

    1. Thank you Edel. Yes… I am not actually intimated by his “gutter language”. We are the salt and light of this world. But we also have to choose a leader whom God can work (through the government) and Duterte’s leadership and political will usher the change God has for this nation. Cause God is God. He can use even those with unclean lips.

  38. I write this with hesitation but I am simply overcome with courage.

This is not an argument for the candidate I am rooting for. It doesn’t matter.

This is an open rebuke to the authors of this blog post and to all other Christians following these arguments for Mayor Duterte.

    1. Please do not call this a Christian vote because many of us of your same
faith do not share your opinions even if I respect them.

    2. Please be fair and avoid double standard. You keep acknowledging your candidates faults yet you always keep covering them by saying that a real encounter with Christ is possible with him and that even God uses the most vile personalities in history. I agree on both counts. But the same argument can be made for any candidate for that matter. The same encounter and the same use by God of any person are true for all of them. Why are you claiming this argument exclusively for your candidate if not to use it cover his faults? And why do other Christians argue that we can not judge him? We who do not share your stand are not judging him, we are only making an argument to not vote for him. We are not condemning him to hell because that is what judgement is. In the same
token and following your logic, aren’t you judging our candidates by not choosing them. I am sure you will say not.

    3. You claim to have seen the world and compare the cities to be inferior to Davao City. With all due respect and
modesty aside, I am writing this post in Paris. My family started our vacation in Amsterdam, been to Rome and Venice and will be in London next week. In my career I have visited many other cities on business and I have been to Singapore and Davao. Was just there last year when I accompanied my son in nearby Tagum for palarong pambansa. I single out Singapore because many liken your candidate to Lee Kuan Yew. Your statement that there is nothing like Davao is a stretch. It is nowhere near any of the cities I mentioned. I can understand if it is home to you as Muntinlupa City is home to me but let’s be truthful in our comparisons. I am sorry but In Mayor Duterte’s 22 years in Davao, it is nowhere near Singapore which is just another city with less natural resources than Davao City. Yet you want him to be a Lee Kuan Yew of the Philippines?

I will share your burden to pray for our country but I and many evangelical Christians like me will never share your rationalization of his faults.

In my opinion, you have overstepped your faith and have spiritualized your stand in error. By all means, root for your candidate but please don’t rationalize in a seemingly spiritual way his faults.

    I hope this reaches you.

    1. Hi Ike,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The length of your comment spells your love for the nation and our people and I appreciate that. To answer your concerns:

      1. As mentioned in the very first part of the blog. This is not a #ChristianVote because it represents the Filipino vote. It is a vote out of faith for revival to happen in this nation. It is not the same vote coming from religious organizations. Because this is done in faith, this is why I have to separate it.

      2. I am routing for Duterte thus I was only focused on his mistakes and thus the justification. Kindly note that I even underlined his weaknesses. And yes the rest have faults too but what makes Duterte different is his the FRUITS of his actions. It is not corrupt. It has no self-interest.

      3. As mentioned in the blog, other may be ADVANCED but when it comes to religious freedom, revival, destiny, calling and equality – there’s no place like Davao City. I have been to some of the nations you mentioned too and I can’t see Christianity in the culture. This is what makes Davao City different. And this would have been difficult if the Mayor doesn’t have good leadership.

Thanks for praying with me. I respect your stand. Let’s pray that the RIGHT person who can truly usher change in our nation wins. It’s time for revival in our land. It’s time for the glory of good to be revealed that we may walk in our destiny and calling as a people.

Julmar Grace you have said it right. Isnt it true that love covereth all things. Love can be blind. JESUS WHEN FORGIVES… HE FORGETS, AS IF YOU YOU HAVE NOT DONE WRONG.

AS FOR DUTERTE, HE IS NOT INFALLIBLE JUST LIKE US, BUT THE LORD USES ORDINARY PEOPLE TO BRING HIS PEOPLE TO SALVATION. AM SURE HE WILL BRING THIS NATION TO GREATER HEIGHTS.

        LETS GIVE HIM OUR TRUST.

  39. Very well, said. DUTERTE for president.👊

    1. Amen.

  40. Hi, I respect your choice but kindly reflect on this.. 2 Corinthians 5:9 “Our goal as Christians is to please God”. The question now is it pleasing to God if we vote fir Duterte even though: He willfully and continuously practice and promote disobedience to the Ten Commandments especially killing and adultery or sexual immorality. He directly attack the bible by saying that the bible is written incorrectly. One of his spiritual adviser is a self proclaimed Son of God and Savior.. He curse a lot including the Pope and even God.. And he is not a good example to the youth.. I cant tell my son to follow the example of Mayor Duterte.. I also want good for the country.. But I wont compromise my faith to achieve it. Mqy God Bless you and Keep you..

    1. I don’t think I’m compromising my faith here. 🙂 In fact, I am doing this in faith. God is not intimated with Duterte’s mouth. That’s His (lost) son. He is a sinner who is upfront about it. Unlike the rest who displays goodness with the right words but will STEAL from us later. 🙂 Controlled by the rich and will promote capitalism, oligarchy… That won’t give us the change this nation needs.

He did not curse the Pope – it was an expression of his anger for the corruption and failed governance caused by traffic. I would really encourage you to dig DEEPER and see beyond the surface. Who can be there to bring a better Philippines for your son. Duterte may not be the saintly guy we’re used to but he’s definitely the man who we will be thankful for because he will truly bring the transformation this nation needs. 🙂

    2. On your question “are we pleasing God if we vote for Duterte even though he is the “greatest of (all) sinners” (I used “greatest of (all) sinners” to summarize the litany of wrong doings Duterte committed -and you listed some of them), I will say – what does you conviction tell you? See, As (Born-Again) Christians we have to ourselves the foundations of our faith which are based on our understanding of the Bible, from the teachings of our respective churches and most importantly the communion of/with the Holy Spirit. These are the things we go by day-in and day-out and choosing candidates is no different.

Grace on her own capacity has stated her reasons as to why she is choosing Duterte over the others. This is what her conviction is telling her to do and we can’t do anything about it.

If you may, allow me to reason with you based on what you have pointed out.

This proves that he is a sinner by God’s standard. Does this mean that he couldn’t be an effective leader? Absolutely not, look at what he did in Davao. Was he as sinner at this time of Davao’s progress? I think he was and I think he still is.

I haven’t seen or heard him say his (yet). Is he capable of saying this kind of statements? I am 100% sure that he is.

His friendship with Quiboloy started years and years back when the latter was just an ordinary preacher on TV. His association with Quiboloy does diminish him as person or as a leader the same way with you and me. I have a lot of sinner friends that does mean that I am a lesser person?

He is a cursing machine. Him cursing the Pope or God I won’t discuss because he already explained the narrative behind what he said and that itself is clear and sensible.

I agree with you on this Duterte is 1000000% NOT a good example to the youth and because of that you should NEVER tell your son to follow him. On my end, I will do the same. I will tell my kids NOT to follow Rody Duterte. Grace should also do the same and tell her kids. Our ultimate example should Jesus, we should follow Him and tell the generations to come to know Him and follow Him. I am not trying to be “corny” but you see, humanity in general is flawed. If we put our trust on anyone they will one day fail us.

In conclusion, Duterte is a very flawed man. His moral compass is pointing towards a different direction than the most of us but that is between him and his Maker.
Look at Duterte’s track record as a public servant. Check the bills and laws he prioritized in Davao and our response to his morality (or the lack of it) and imperfections would be to pray for Digong and that he will have a personal encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. Please do not take away the hope that he will change for the better. After all, isn’t that what Jesus did to us?

      1. Dayawi! Sa way dapig2… ❤

My parents raised me to hear God's voice and my relationship with Him guided me right and wrong. I will do the same with my kids. 🙂

  41. I am very happy that Christians are seriously reflecting on who can be the best candidate God can use as His instrument to make His glory shine in the Philippines. The mammon-lover are doing their best to tempt us to vote for them in exchange for their money and empty promises. As of now our country is ruled by demonic powers – drug-lords and pushers, cheaters, corrupts, “dia-bolos” (double-talkers and swindlers), etc. David was not an upright man, Simon Peter has his own flaws, Saul was not right with God although he was zealous of the Mosaic law. But God in His own time chose to be a “chosen vessel” to make His glory shine among the nations. Outward look is deceiving!
Samuel could have chosen one of the brothers of David had he not listened to the voice of God. God is not so helpless to choose a sinner to bring this nation to greatness and make His glory shine.
DU30 may not be your choice. But who among the candidates do you think is God’s choice? Those who posed as saints or he who accepts his weakness but will sincerely serve the majority of the poorest of the poor whom Jesus loves!

    1. Super agree Warly. How I wish all Christians see this election with your eyes.

    1. Let’s pray and interceed. 🙂

  43. Really an eye-opener to all Filipinos! Thank’s for this Ms. Grace! Shared it on my FB account. Every Filipino is entitled to it’s own choices. On May 9, E-Day, I pray and hope that we will not based our votes on surveys and specially don’t make it for sale. Okay lang masayang basta alam mong pinaglaban mo kung ano sa tingin mo ang tama, tama para sa iyo at sa bansa mo. DUTERTE is my choice came from my strong conviction! I can see in him a father and a great leader! Nevermind his attitude and tactless mouth etc. His mouth problem is only petty problem compare to bigger problem like crimes, oligarch, corruption is much bigger problem if you think of it wisely. Good governance is all that matters nowadays and our country is in a dire situation and would never be able to move forward unless a good leader takes its helm. Infact, God never looks at how someone appears on the outside but He look at what is in the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7) Both my head and my heart are in perfect harmony. I’m with your #ChristianVoteForDigong! Let’s vote wisely!

    1. Thanks Jeremiah. With tears in my eyes and heartfelt cry, let’s pray for our beloved Philippines. It’s time to see her fulfilling her call. 🙂

  44. Thank you for this post! It’s my first time to vote and I really wanted to make the right decision. I’ve been confused for a while on which candidate (or tandem) i’m going to give my vote to. At first i’m pro Duterte bc my dad is an avid supporter of him. i’ve read a lot about his works and i am amazed at how much of a good servant-leader he really is. however, a lot of people keep telling me (posting on social media) about his “issues” and i admit, it completely shook my trust on him. Then i kept thinking, if i’m not gonna vote for him, then who among the other candidates is competent enough to lead this country? It’s very frustrating bc I couldn’t see anyone other than Du30. That is why, i am very happy i stumbled on this post bc it makes me breathe easier that i’m finally back on a firm ground. I really hope he is the person who can make a good change in our country. 🙂

    1. Great to hear that. Thanks for sharing.

  45. Only Leni possesses both Character and competence among all VP candidates. NAGA is not a first class province because of Robredo’s good governance. The Cayetanos are corrupt. You will not feel safe, especially at Taguig, inside Taguig town proper. There is not much the Cayetanos have achieved for Taguig. Please do not include BGC as part of his achievement because it is not.

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  46. Yup, I am with duterte sayang di ako makakaboto but I am campaigning him to my relatives 🙂

    1. 🙂 Sayang. But at least you’re doing something. 🙂
